Trail Report February 10, 2013

Cliff and I were out all day yesterday. The upper trails RD672 to RD67 had drifts but everything groomed up nice. We then went from RD672 north and Jockey {just north of the RD672 intersection} and it was all ice on the steep climbs. We had to winch 6 or 8 times to get over the hill! Then just north of RD65 there was ice again and I ended up sliding backwards back down the hill and jack knifed the unit off the edge of the trail. The winch managed to pull it back up and we finally made it to the top with no damage to the unit! From there on it went well all the way to Route 4. We then went back via 407 and only winched once. The trails down low are still slim but rideable. The sleds that we saw did not seem to have issues with the ice, but extreme caution is advised!! We are hoping for some wet snow or someting to stick the snow to the ice. We may have to salt or sand those ares if mother nature does not help. In all my years of grooming these trails we have never had it this bad with ice! Ride Safely and Ride Right! Roy.

Maybe this thaw and rain will provide a little stick between snow and ice before more snow on the weekend.
