Gate Damaged!

This is after we reset the bridge.

This is after we reset the bridge.

This was after Irene.

This was after Irene.

The gate on the bridge above the Clement Shelter was ripped apart! We don’t know when it happened but if anyone gets any info about it please contact me. The gate was welded to the trailer bed, the lock was ripped apart. Then they tried to break the swinging end off but it only twisted some. Who ever did this was just out to destroy the gate. We will try to put it back together and reinforce it more next spring. Just one more needless thing to do next year, that gate has been up 15 to 20 years, what a waste!  As you can see the gate withstood the storm of Irene. I took some photos of the damage but the did not come out so this weekend I will try again and post them next week.

Did the vandals make it past the gate? Though it got trashed, your description suggests it still may have prevented them from crossing the bridge.

Yes they got through. The gate is stuck open, I tried to swing the beam back but it won’t move at this time. Next year we will go up with equipment and try to repair it.
